Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgery, known technically as a blepharoplasty, upper and/or lower, is performed to remove excess skin and bulging fat in the upper and/or lower lids which helps to visually lift the eyes. The muscle may also be tightened depending on need. The result is a less tired and more youthful appearance to the periorbital region. This eyelift plastic surgery can be performed in isolation, or more commonly, at the same time as a face lift. During the eyelift surgery, our plastic surgeon makes lower eyelid incisions just below the eyelashes, extending slightly into the crowfeet lines. The transconjuctival approach involves an incision on the inside of the lower lid. This method leaves no external scar but only removes fat. For the upper eyelid, the plastic surgeon makes incisions in the normal lid crease. The excess fat and skin are removed.
At the Straith Clinic, we understand that no two patients are alike and therefore, no two eyelid surgeries are alike. Meeting the unique needs of our patients coupled with our knowledge, surgeon experience, and training is what separates us from other eyelid surgeons in Detroit, Michigan.

Risks involved with facial cosmetic surgery
No surgical procedure is risk free, and that includes facial cosmetic surgery. Although cosmetic surgery is an elective procedure, every patient must understand that these procedures are real surgical operations that involve the potential for complications. However, most cosmetic surgery procedures are categorized as low risk when performed in an accredited facility, by a board certified plastic surgeon with the appropriate training and qualifications.
Surgical risks can be categorized broadly into general risks and specific risks. General risks are the potential complications that are common to all surgical procedures, such as infection, bleeding, wound healing problems, and anesthetic complications. Specific risks are the potential complications that are unique to the specific facial surgery operations. A more detailed discussion about the specific risks and general risks of your specific facial procedure will be carried out during your surgical consultation.
The risk of complications from a facial surgery can be minimized with a combination of the proper knowledge, skill, sound surgical practices and by closely following your surgeon’s instructions on follow-up care during the recovery period.
