The Straith Clinic has been performing facial plastic surgery in Metro Detroit, MI for over 70 years and has earned a reputation for excellence. For prospective patients who wish to have surgery on their face performed, the Straith Clinic specializes in a host of facial cosmetic surgery and facial rejuvenation procedures that can address any imperfection you may seek to improve or reverse.

Each facial plastic surgeon at the Straith Clinic understands that every patient has a unique need for their makeover, and our commitment to meeting these unique needs is what separates us from other facial cosmetic surgery specializing clinics in the Detroit area and Michigan. Facial plastic surgery is one of the most common services requested by our patients. However, facial surgery is not the only specialty of the Straith Clinic. Additionally, our clinic offers many non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures, such as dermabrasion, chemical peels and wrinkle fillers for patients who desire less invasive methods.

Facial Plastic Surgery Explained:

Traditional Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

The traditional face lift uses a combination of facial plastic surgery techniques that target:

  • Sagging skin of the cheeks
  • Jaw line
  • Neck Area

The traditional face lift usually gives you a more youthful facial appearance by:

  • Lifting Cheeks
  • Softening the nasolabial lines
  • Reducing jowling
  • Tightening the neck skin
Plastic Surgery pioneer Claire Straith, M.D., D.D.S.'s, vision continues through the work of Doctors Enrique Sabbagh, M.D.; William Sabbagh, M.D., F.A.C.S.; and Lawrence Tong, M.D., F.R.C.S.C., F.A.C.S.; all of whom are experts in cosmetic plastic surgery of the face, nose, breast, and body.

In general, the traditional facelift/necklift result is longer lasting, but requires a higher degree of invasive techniques and more recovery when compared to the ‘mini’ techniques.

Mini Facelift

This cosmetic facial surgery procedure, which is less invasive than the traditional facelift, will help rejuvenate the cheek, jowls and nasolabial folds, and to a lesser extent, the neck. The main advantage to this procedure over a regular face lift is a shorter recovery time. A mini-face lift is generally more suited for younger patients who have mild facial aging with minimal signs of aging in the neck.

Brow Lift

Currently there are two facial cosmetic techniques used for brow lifts. The endoscopic brow lift is more frequently performed and has the advantage of less recovery and minimal scars. It involves small incisions in the hair that are used to help elevate the forehead and eyebrow tissues. These tissues are then re-attached back to their previous, youthful position. No tissue is excised. The coronal brow lift involves an incision across the top of the head. This type of face surgery is performed less frequently and is generally reserved for older individuals who have more significant drooping of the brows. Both facial procedures will remove portions of the muscles that cause frown lines between the eyebrows and will improve the appearance of this area as well as the upper eyelids.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Cosmetic surgery of the eyelid, also known as blepharoplasty is a specialty of the Straith Clinic.  Eyelid surgery is performed to remove excess skin and bulging fat in the upper and/or lower lids. The muscle may also be tightened depending on need. The result is a less tired and more youthful appearance to the periorbital region. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty incisions are made just below the eyelashes, extending slightly into the crows feet lines. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty incisions are made in the normal lid crease.

Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Nasal facial plastic surgery is one of the most popular procedures performed at the Straith Clinic. This procedure can simultaneously correct the function and improve the appearance of the nose. A septoplasty is often performed at the same time as a rhinoplasty in order to reconstruct a deviated septum and to improve breathing.

The facial plastic surgeon may make incisions on the inside or outside of the nose in inconspicuous areas. The internal structure is the changed by altering the cartilage and correcting the bone. These maneuvers help to reshape the nose into a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. The septum and nasal structures obstructing breathing are corrected to improve breathing as well as to straighten nasal deviations.

Chin Augmentation Surgery (Augmentation Mentoplasty)

Chin augmentation is a facial plastic surgery procedure performed to improve the basic shape of the chin and the balance of the face. An implant is inserted through a small incision inside the lower lip or under the chin.

Protruding Ears (Otoplasty)

Cosmetic facial surgery of the ears, referred to as an otoplasty, corrects protruding and abnormally positioned ears by moving them closer to the head and by improving their contour. Otoplasty can be performed anytime after the age of four years old. The facial plastic surgeon makes incisions along the back of the ear. A strip of skin is removed from behind the ears. Normal ear contour is formed by suturing and/or excising the excess cartilage.

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Procedures Explained:

Chemical Peels

A Chemical Peel is a facial rejuvenation procedure performed to better and/or restore the following conditions:

  • Decrease fine facial wrinkles
  • Remove facial blemishes
  • Reverse uneven facial pigmentation
  • Improve facial skin texture from sun damage

Chemical peels are performed in our clinic using a chemical solution to peel away the skin’s top layers. This procedure works best on fair skin, with superficial wrinkles. Results vary and depend on the exact concentration of the selected solution’s formula. Chemical peels, depending on the doctor’s discretion and your result satisfaction, may be performed multiple times to obtain a desired result. At the Straith Clinic, we use the Phenol and Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) formulas for facial rejuvenation.

General Dermabrasion or Microdermabrasion

Dermabrasion or Microdermabrasion are facial rejuvenation procedures that involve a mechanical sanding of the top layers of skin using a high-speed rotary wheel. The effect is to soften the sharp edges of surface irregularities commonly seen in acne scarring and other types of scars and fine wrinkles. Dermabrasion or Microdermabrasion is especially suited for vertical wrinkles (smoker’s lines) around the mouth.

Risks Involved with any Facial Plastic Surgery or Facial Rejuvenation Surgery:

No surgical procedure is risk free, and that includes facial plastic surgery. Although cosmetic face surgery is an elective procedure, every patient must understand that these procedures are real surgical operations that involve the potential for complications. However, most cosmetic surgery procedures are categorized as low risk when performed in an accredited facility, by a facial plastic surgeon with the appropriate training qualifications.

Surgical risks can be categorized broadly into general risks and specific risks. General risks are the potential complications that are common to all surgical procedures, such as infection, bleeding, wound healing problems, and anesthetic complications. Specific risks are the potential complications that are unique to the specific facial surgery operations. A more detailed discussion about the specific and general risks of your face surgery will be carried out during your surgical consultation.

The risk of complications from a face surgery can be minimized with a combination of the proper knowledge, skill, sound surgical practices and by closely following your surgeon’s instructions on follow-up care during the recovery period.

With an established track record of over 70 years, staffing board certified facial plastic surgeons in an accredited facility,  and thousands of patients throughout Detroit, Michigan, and the U.S.,  the Straith Clinic has earned a reputation for facial makeovers  that are truly life changing.
